BRISBANE HOTEL

Excerpt from an article published in Glass & Glazing products January 2000

The Brisbane Hotel in Largs, is a very well known establishment with extremely high standards. One of it’s main features was a large timber conservatory installed in 1993 and used as a dining room extension. However, situated as it is, on the west coast of Scotland, it was a direct target for the unpredictable weather associated with this region. Earlier this year, the residents of the hotel heard strange creaking noises coming from the conservatory and were quickly evacuated , only to see it collapse just 20 minutes later. Local conservatory specialists, Solayr Ltd, were called in to replace the fallen structure. Time was of the essence, as the replacement had to be installed prior to the world famous Tall Ships Race event, which was being held during the last week of July.

Utilising Ultraspan, Ultraframe’s off the shelf mini portal conservatory system, along with Solayr’s expertise in conservatory installation, meant that the job was completed both on time and to the highest possible standards.                                                                        Solayrs design and installation teams were highly impressed with the prefabricated system, which is made from high strength aluminium profiles, and agree that it is ideal for large domestic and commercial applications where customers want to maximise space whilst minimising costs.                                                   It is also fully compatible with Ultraframe’s BBA certified Victorian roofing components. Complete peace of mind was essential for the hotel owner and this was provided by Ultraframe’s in house structural engineer giving a complete clean bill of health prior to the commencement of building works.                           This tragic example illustrates why conservatory specialists such as Solayr Ltd with experience of large span structures, must be engaged.
